Dr. Tatman has a reputation for innovative and thoughtful work
in sleep disorders medicine. She has expertise in each of the
different sleep disorders, as well as in disorders of sleep that
may interact when more than one medical problem or sleep disorder
is present.
Dr. Tatman has enjoyed extensive healthcare experience in both
medical and mental health settings. She began her career in
clinical medicine as a physician assistant working in primary
care and emergency medicine, simultaneously spending the latter
portion of those years as a graduate student in clinical health
psychology. She continues to feel indebted to her many former
primary care medical patients and remains aware of how much she
learned from their efforts to master their medical problems and
improve their health. The capacity of people with a health challenge
to rise to the occasion, maintain an uplifting sense of humor,
and use effective coping tactics stirred Dr. Tatman’s interest
in positive health psychology and ultimately led to developing
a special focus on sleep and the very successful, yet often little-known,
options for improving it.
Dr. Tatman has been honored to serve as a volunteer in several
capacities for both the American Board of Sleep Medicine and
the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She periodically serves
as a pre-publication reviewer of articles submitted to one of
the best known professional journals for clinical sleep disorders.
Dr. Tatman has a long and ongoing history of involvement with
teaching sleep disorders to physicians, psychologists, medical
and psychological residents-in-training, nurses, college students
and sleep laboratory technologists. She also makes herself available
to lecture on sleep for a variety of non-profit organizations
and employer groups that have an interest in fostering healthy
sleep in their members.
In addition to her practice of sleep disorders medicine, Dr.
Tatman also maintains a small psychotherapy practice. |
